Import and Export of Microsoft Project plans

A workplan or workplan template may be created in Microsoft Project, imported to VPC, and further modified, if needed. Or a workplan from one proposal may be exported in Microsoft Project format (either MS Project 98, 2000 or 2003), then imported into other VPC proposals.

This allows proposal workplans to be re-used easily, and also provides a means to create calendar or Gantt chart views of proposal workplans.

To import a Project file, first select the Workplan function, then select the Import button. You will be prompted to enter the name of the Project file to be imported. The file must have been saved using either VPC's Export function (see below) or Project's File Save As function. From within Project, you must follow this procedure:
  1. With file open, select File - Save As and save as type Text (tab delimited).
  2. In Export Wizard, under Map, select radio button 'Use existing map' and click on Next.
  3. Under Map Selection, select 'Task "Export Table" map' and click on Next.
  4. Under Map Options, make sure you have 'Tasks' selected in type of data. For Text file options select 'Export includes headers' and Tab as the text delimiter. Click on Next.
  5. Under Task Mapping, do not change anything, click on Next
  6. Click on Finish
Note: If you want to import userids from a MS Project Workplan, then make sure Resource Name is exported in Text 5 field.

To export a VPC workplan to a Project file, either for use in another VPC proposal, or for import into Microsoft Project, select the Export button from the workplan screen, select either MS Project 98, MS Project 2000 or 2003 format, and enter the name of the file to which the workplan should be exported.
